New internally illuminated “totem” signage
The proposal sought advertisement consent for the display of a new freestanding, internally illuminated “totem” advertisement sign at the entrance to Heyworth Business Park in Guildford, designed to display up to seven tenant company names and improve visibility of businesses—particularly newer occupiers like Patch Fitness—in a commercially dominated area already characterised by similar signage. The sign is modest in scale (approximately 2.8m high), positioned safely away from the road and footpath, and designed with neutral colours and backlit illumination to ensure legibility without causing visual clutter, harm to amenity, or distraction to drivers. Overall, the application argued that the signage is appropriate to its setting, supports local business growth, and complies with relevant local and national planning policies.
