Certificates of Lawfulness
Establishing the legal status of your property or project
A Certificate of Lawfulness provides formal confirmation of whether an existing or proposed use or development requires planning permission, or whether it is lawful and therefore immune from planning enforcement action.
There are two types of Certificate of Lawfulness applications
Certificate of Lawfulness of Existing Use or Development (CLEUD)
Used to establish whether an existing use or development required planning permission, or whether it has become lawful through the passage of time.
Certificate of Lawfulness of Proposed Use or Development (CLOPUD)
Typically sought prior to commencing works to confirm whether a proposed project requires planning permission.
