Description
Change of use of ‘Woodside’ former RHS Director’s house to a cafeteria
Planning permission was granted on 12 November 2024 for the continued use of the former RHS Directors House, Woodside, as a ground-floor café with office space for 8–10 workers on the first floor. The proposal followed the expiry of a temporary five-year permission and included only minor external changes, such as a small parking expansion near the existing garage, with no significant alterations to the building itself.
Planning officers accepted the loss of the residential use, concluding the impact would be limited and outweighed by support for sustainable rural business growth. The scheme was also found to cause no harm to the Green Belt, comply with town centre use policies, and fit the mixed residential and commercial character of the Wisley area. Permission was granted subject to four conditions, including a requirement that the office space may only be used by organisations affiliated with or appointed by the Royal Horticultural Society.
