Description
Urban residential development project comprising 34 apartments
On 29 January 2025, Runnymede Borough Council agreed to grant planning permission for the demolition of five existing homes and the construction of a new 3–4 storey building containing 34 flats, subject to a legal agreement, 23 planning conditions, and 14 informatives. The scheme includes mainly one and two-bedroom units, private balconies or gardens for most homes, communal amenity space, cycle parking, bin stores, and six car parking spaces, making it effectively a car-free development. The design features an L-shaped building with stepped heights, gabled roofs, dormer windows, and landscaping intended to fit the surrounding town centre character.
Planning officers supported the proposal, stating it would provide high-quality, high-density housing in a sustainable location while respecting neighbouring privacy and meeting national space standards. Although no affordable housing will be delivered due to viability constraints, the applicant agreed to a review mechanism to capture any future increase in viability through a Section 106 agreement. The scheme was also found to comply with policies relating to highways, biodiversity, trees, drainage, flooding, noise, air quality, renewable energy, and ecology.
