Description
Refurbishment and replacement of redundant listed farm buildings to create a new commercial hub
The Whipley Manor Estate lies to the north of Cranleigh. The property owners came to us seeking planning services to refurbish and replace a series of redundant farm buildings. Over the course of three years permissions were granted to allow the re-use and replacement of the buildings. The site now provide a successful commercial hub in a rural location.
One of the projects involved the refurbishment of a Grade 2 Listed timber barn, which was no longer suitable for farming purposes but was restored and now provides an excellent commercial space for retail use. The works were specifically designed for occupation by ‘Taurus Wines’ who have been in occupation since 2001.
The courtyard also included a series of former pig pens and dilapidated officers. Planning permission was sought for a new two Storey replacement building. This accommodates a series of retail units at ground floor and officers at first floor. Other buildings and barns within the courtyard have all been refurbished and are in use for a variety of commercial uses..
The development has been very successful for the landowner and is fully let and illustrates what can be achieved with former farm buildings.
